WELCOME TO CULTURE FOR MICRO CREDIT
FUTURE

MISSION
Culture for micro Credit, CmC is a registered foundation providing micro credits to women in Burma through solidarity lending networks set up with our support. Our goal is to initiate a number of new networks in different regions, so more communities can benefit!

A BRIGHT FUTURE
Our mission is to supply micro credits to women in developing countries. Micro credit loans are small sums of money loaned in a social network which support women who want to implement simple but effective business ideas. The loans not only provide the women for much needed income, but also engender a sense of pride and empowerment.

MICRO CREDIT WORKS
We handed out our first micro credit, for a sewing machine, in 2005. The next year we received the loan back! We decided to give this first project a more solid structure. Over the years our three projects, based in three States in Burma established a micro credit network which is managed by a dedicated team within the community. The team evaluates each application, consisting of a business plan and the names of group of usualy 5 or more guarantors who will repay the debt if the applicant fails to do so. Payback is done on a daily basis. Only twice a month, on fullmoon day and halfmoon day the markets and offices are closed and the women do not have to pay back.

If approved, the applicant will be awarded a first loan, usually equal to 30,000 Kyat or $30 (US) that is paid back over an agreed time period. A small interest rate is added to counter the effects of inflation and contribute towards network running costs. The majority of applicants have been able to repay the loan in less than ten months, and to date, we have enjoyed an almost 100% repayment rate.
Once the loan repayment is complete, the money is recycled into new micro credits for a second loan, usually equal to 60,000 Kyat or $60 (US.) and a third for usually equal to 90,000 Kyat or $90 (US).

So far over 300 women per year per network have been awarded loans, helping them create a more stable present and a brighter future.

With 3 networks in different States in Burma, over 900 women on a yearly basis have been awarded a small loan.

SUCCESSES
Each year at least one member of our team visits to deliver more contributions, to review the accounts and to discuss developments within the network.

As part of the visit we meet with a number of women who have been awarded loans, so we can learn about how their lives have been transformed. Some of these success stories are shared here.
The loans not only provide the women with much needed income, but also engender a sense of pride and empowerment.

GET INVOLVED

YOU TOO CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Become a friend of CmC and help families get the chance of a lifetime!
CmC has enjoyed the support of some wonderful friends over the last years. Each of them chose to undertake a personal challenge in many different parts of the world, donating the proceeds raised to our foundation. Their contribution made a huge difference to the awareness of CmC and the amount of money we were able to deliver to the network we created.

  • Annemieke & Luc ran the New York 2009 marathon to promote the micro credit projects.
  • Mark walked the Colorado trail and sold 500 miles to help establish a micro credit network. Two years later, in 2011 he biked and hiked another time: over 1500 miles all through Europe, raising money and awareness on his way. www.milesforburma.com.
  • Teun is driving with his Sulky car from Amsterdam all the way to Asia and is promoting our micro credit projects during his trip. You may follow him on his journey. www.Crazybird.nl
  • Both Anna and Truus dedicated their birthday to the women in Burma by asking for donations as a present.

GET INSPIRED AND BECOME A FRIEND

  • Throw a party with a purpose: Link your marathon, hike, birthday, wedding celebration or wine tasting party to our projects in Asia!
  • Give a donation as a gift: The perfect present for those who already have everything in life!
  • Spread the word within your social network: Forward this website to your friends!

Word has spread swiftly in local communities leading to the number of applicants more than doubling in the last year.

2008...

YOUR CONTRIBUTION CHANGES LIVES
Each year we have produced our annual calendar with images that promote the beauty and culture of the places we have initiated micro credit networks. To thank our supporters, we would like to give the latest calendar as a gift to those people who donate € 25 or more!

HOW CAN A EURO A DAY CHANGE A FAMILY'S LIFE
In 2005 we supplied our first micro credit to a young seamstress. The micro credit was a success and it inspired us to slowly expanded our project. By 2008 we had received enough donations to establish our first micro credit network and in 2009 the foundation Culture for micro Credit (CmC) was a fact/realized! Each year at least one member of our team visits to deliver more contributions, to review the accounts, talk with the ladies and to discuss developments within the network.

If you like to order a calendar, please contact us by e-mail.
